SIR - Since 1993 Skipton residents have seen the Single Person’s Council Tax Discount frozen at 25%; that discount has been the same for 25 years.
Council tax bills have ballooned in size since 1993 but their discount has been frozen. There should be an immediate increase in the discount to 50% because lower living costs reduce the need for social security benefits.
Labour and Conservative councils across the country have stolen billions of pounds from council tax payers since 1993 through this tax trick.
Not every citizen is a millionaire but every citizen is treated as a millionaire through the council tax system. English Democrats believe in reducing the burden of council on low and middle income families and individuals because household bills should be cut, starting with council tax.
