SIR - With the new wind of change currently blowing through the White House and some of the decisions emanating from that place, we probably shouldn’t be totally surprised at some of the consequences.

However, one recent outcome had more than a touch of the bizarre about it, combined with farce.

The African Global Economic and Development Summit takes place annually at the University of Southern California. The summit aims to encourage businesses to invest in Africa and to support initiatives to provide clean energy, tackle the effects of climate change and reduce poverty.

But this year things were a good bit quieter than normal and crucially, there was a distinct lack of... Africans! It seems around 100 delegates who might have attended were in fact barred from entering the country to take part in the event.
