SIR - Constantly, we hear from car owners demanding cheaper fuel, better, even more or bigger roads and, of course, cheap parking.

It sometimes makes me think that the environmental problems which are well-documented and have been in the public domain for a long time have passed these people by.

Or maybe they think it’s affecting some ‘other’ world!

We know about pollution, in the air and sea and on land.

Climate change is real and those who are still sceptical, must be like the last members of the Flat Earth Society, who, sticking true to their beliefs, refused to believe when they were told that the Earth was, in fact, round!

We’ve been given sterner and sterner warnings from expert scientific opinion, but still some don’t seem to think it affects them.

Perhaps they think ‘Why should I do anything, when my next door neighbour doesn’t bother? (The neighbour’s probably thinking the same.) Or, perhaps it’s that old favourite ‘manana’ (Spanish: meaning ‘always tomorrow’). We’ve got plenty of time!
