SIR – There is probably no doubt in many eyes that local services have gone backwards since the 1974 changes which abolished the Urban District Councils.
That two of our MPs are now proposing that Bradford Council be split up (T&A, March 13) is no great surprise to many of us.
When, for example, libraries, village halls, and visitor centres are being cut back, and all outlying public conveniences closed, then it is obvious that things need to change.
If this is through the reduction of the Bradford Metropolitan area then so be it. Labour Council leader Susan Hinchcliffe and her colleagues only have themselves to blame for many of their actions over the past few years.
