SIR - Last year, then PM David Cameron committed the UK to taking in 3,000 of the unaccompanied child victims of Syria’s cruel conflict.
Compared to refugee intake in many countries, this was a modest offer from one of the world’s wealthiest nations.
The Syrian war has left thousands of children without a family. Alone in the world, carrying the trauma of the horrors they have been through, many of these children still have nowhere safe to call home.
Now, Theresa May is backing down on this pledge in a dishonourable, callous move that shames our country. A new figure of just 350 children was quietly revealed last week, meaning 2,650 vulnerable children will be denied the help and safety they need.
If you think this is wrong, there is something positive you can do. Go online, google ‘Care2 Action’ and sign the petition there along with many other people who believe our government should honour its pledge to give sanctuary to all the 3,000 Syrian children it promised to help.
