SIR - Responding to the letter of Ben Pickles (T&A Sept 10), who lambasts the Shipley MP for taking a pragmatic stance on the influx of migrant/refugees, into our country. He states the question is not a “left” or “right” issue; however, I fundamentally disagree.

It would not be so if the previous Labour Government had not intentionally imported over three million migrants during those 13 catastrophic years. The UK is simply full; we are close to 60 million population.

The Labour Party will stoop to below gutter level to obtain a majority in Westminster. Society perceives immigrants as generally poor, requiring welfare and voting Labour. Would Blair and Brown have thrown the UK doors wide open displaying welcome, if new arrivals voted Conservative?

This summer the socialists have called for more inward migration. They know fundamentally that this will increase their left wing vote. This is all proposed under the mirage of charity.

The Conservative government is spending vast amounts sustaining refugee camps in the Middle East, and is planning to accept another 20,000, mainly vulnerable orphaned children by the end of this parliament.

This will remain a political question.
