SIR - Jeremy Corbyn is to be congratulated for his overwhelming victory in securing the leadership of the Labour Party, and it reflects badly that the Parliamentary Party has little respect for the decision of the membership.

Rather than helping Mr Corbyn build a broad alliance, and despite his conciliatory overtures to all wings of the party, many Labour members of parliament are acting little better than petulant children.

They fail to appreciate that the movement is demanding a change of direction, and not a continuation of past policies.

The attitude of those in government and the conventional media has been condescending and disrespectful, as evidenced by their disparaging and cheap comments.

Not unlike Ukip, Mr Corbyn has succeeded in inspiring a grass root movement, often appealing to those not previously involved in conventional politics. To succeed, Mr Corbyn needs to unite the parliamentary party, who in turn need to show loyalty and respect the decision of the membership.
