SIR – Well it hasn’t taken Labour very long to run true to form has it? For weeks during the leadership campaign every candidate wanted immigration to be controlled and admitted Labour got it badly wrong last time.

Yet now, with the EU Syrian refugee crisis, they want unlimited numbers admitted to this country.

Never mind that we have shortages of housing, healthcare, school places, welfare benefit and state pensions money, rising youth unemployment, etc, or that local authorities such as Bradford Council claim to be unable to maintain essential services due to lack of funds.

Let all come here is Labour’s message again.

Even the 20,000 suggested by David Cameron is a lot when all the illegal entrants still landing daily out of the back of lorries are taken into account.

Maybe the government ought to crack down on the illegals and remove those overstaying student and tourist vistas or the many athletes from previous Commonwealth and Olympic games who never went home.

But as immigration was the main cause of Labour losing the last two elections perhaps we should let them carry on.
