SIR - Your editorial, (Monday, September 14), argued that the blame for increased demands on the street cleaning department and the noticeable rise in fly-tipping should not be placed at the door of the council.

I would take issue with you.

The council’s tip permit scheme has to be factored into the argument.

People who take the time and trouble to take rubbish to a household waste recycling centre are being turned away if they can’t show a permit. What do you imagine that these people then do with their rubbish?

The scrapping of this totally unnecessary scheme is long overdue. The council should admit that it has been an ill thought-out and costly failure.

All of Bradford’s household waste recycling centres should then start to welcome all-comers and we might begin to see a cleaner Bradford district. And please don’t ask me what I think about the council’s latest bright idea, fortnightly bin collections.
