SIR – Concerning the Ilkley collection for the Nepal Earthquake Relief, further collections have been made by the Rotary Club of Ilkley Wharfedale, amassing a total of £3028.55 which has been forwarded to Nepal.

Our contacts there, the Nepal Trust, inform us that they have visited an area 115km west of Katmandu with an estimated population of 1,490: Of these 119 were killed and 350 injured.

100 30kg sacks of rice, 50 boxes of cooking oil, tents and tarpaulins were distributed.

In another area, Sipa Pokhare, comprising nine villages, more aid was distributed.

In general, over a widespread area, whole villages have been destroyed and many others devastated; people killed and injured.

Local people mention that no-one has come to help them, not even from their Government.

Obviously, further aid will be needed but until we know how best to channel our efforts, we must await further communications from Nepal.

In the meantime, keep up the good work, Ilkley, and many, many thanks.

Keith Budd, President-Elect, Ilkley Wharfedale Rotary Club
