SIR – It’s fortunate I have a sense of humour. I can just imagine Christopher Hindle sat at home day after day surrounded by piles of tomes and literature desperately trying to conjure up still more proof that the Labour Party really do represent the working class.

I grew up on the Ravenscliffe estate and what a lovely place it was to live in those days. When at 21 I was old enough to vote my father gave me one piece of advice which I have never forgotten. “Always remember that every vote for Labour is another vote for Communism.”

I haven’t needed to pass his advice on to my children or grandchildren it’s become more obvious during their lifetimes. I cringe when I hear the singing of the Red Flag, how right you were dad.

The pity of it is that comrade Hindle is still prepared to support a party that I wouldn’t trust to be in charge of my household expenditure let alone that of our country. If we are ever to return to prosperity we can never afford another Labour Government.
