SIR - Your correspondents, Messrs Harrison and Barraclough (T&A, October 20), are absolutely right to demand the re-opening of the Spen Valley railway line.

When one considers the horrendous traffic problems in the south Bradford area, and the substantial population adjacent to the old line, then this is surely a no-brainer?

Unfortunately Bradford will remain a railway backwater until proposals such as this, together with a cross-city rail connection, are put in place.

But where is our Labour council when all these matters are suggested? Certainly not at the forefront trying to get this sort of investment when transport improvements across the north are being discussed ever more strongly. Crumbs for Bradford will probably be the only benefit.
