SIR – Mark Burns-Williamson’s £100k-a-year role as the West Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner is to “make sure that we tackle crime and work with partners to tackle the causes and consequences of crime”.

When the public dial 101 and are virtually ignored (T&A, October 18), it is obvious he is not doing the job he is paid for.

Playing the non-committal political game with Dave Green serves little purpose when the basic tenet of an effective police presence is almost non-existent.

Perhaps if he rode around on a police bike instead of a high-powered Audi, he would be more conscious of the organisational muddle for which he must bear some responsibility.
