SIR – I take exception to the letter from Mr Turner (T&A, October 20), regarding his comments that Wyke is the forgotten area of Bradford.

I would remind him that an investment of £28 million for the new Appleton Academy is not small change anywhere.

Over the last few years there have been many highways improvements both small and large to reduce traffic speeding and help road safety.

There has been investment into our parks and open spaces so that Wyke Park, Oakenshaw Park, Odsal Village Green, Toad Holes Beck, Wilson Road bridleway and the Railway Terrace Nature Reserve have all benefited.

The new Low Moor Railway Station is planned to open in 2014.

The local councillors have secured a new Community Library as the existing one had a totally unfit building due to years of neglect. They are looking to develop the old Wyke Manor secondary site for a community sports complex.

Wyke has many thriving sports and community and church groups offering a myriad of opportunities for local residents.

This does not sound like a forgotten area, but one which is bucking the trend, is part of the Big Society and has been for many years.
