FLYTIPPING has been a growing cause for concern in parts of the Bradford district for some time.

In recent months and years, residents have expressed anger and dismay about their neighbourhoods being blighted by the problem.

And some in the worst-hit areas have vented their frustration that not enough was being done to deter or catch the perpetrators.

In that light, news of Bradford Council’s latest efforts to crack down on flytipping are to be welcomed.

Indeed, seizing a van linked to multiple flytipping offences and issuing an image of a man they want to speak to in connection with their inquiries seems to indicate a more proactive approach to combatting this blight.

It is also positive to learn that the local authority has issued nine Penalty Charge Notices to people caught flytipping since they were introduced in October.

The statistics are promising and seem to suggest that the council is keen to make the most of the new legislation at its disposal.

However, many long-suffering communities will be keen to see the fightback against flytippers continue and even intensify in the coming months.

With that in mind, members of the public can play a vital part in helping to bring offenders to book by taking down details of suspicious vehicles and descriptions of individuals and passing them on to the council.

The latest figures amount to a decent start in attempts to beat the flytipping blight. Let’s just hope the momentum can be continued in the future.
