WHAT A shame there are still three Bradford Council-run libraries that have not yet re-opened since their paid staff were pulled out to save costs for the local authority. The libraries in Menston, Undercliffe and Upper Heaton were among 13 closed in the hope they would be taken over by local volunteers as “community-managed” facilities.

There are many examples of such schemes working well across the district. Keeping libraries open just a few hours a week can provide a vital service for those who cannot afford to buy books. Surely, it’s not too late….
