SIR - In response to your editorial (T&A, June 6) regarding Bradford Council cutting full-time roles supporting children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, you are incorrect to say the Council now has "half the budget" it used to have. In fact the Higher Needs Block allocation for 2018/19 is estimated to be £65.79m compared to £63.84m in 2017/18.

The confusion seems to have arisen because there is a new funding formula under which the Department for Education allocates 50per cent of the total Higher Needs Block budget on the basis of this formula, with 50per cent allocated on the basis of current spending levels - because Bradford's spending is lower than the average the ADDITIONAL funding is £7.5m over the next five years.
