A FLOCK of celebrities have come to the rescue of abandoned animals in Bushey.

Richard Briers, John Bird and Colin Baker are among the famous names who will visit the National Animal Welfare Trust, on the A41 Tyler's Way from 10.30am on Monday, August 13.

They have agreed to come to the aid of some of the trust's longer term residents, by encouraging people to give an unwanted pet a new home.

They will be recording television adverts throughout the day.

The animals in question are healthy, but tend to be ignored by those looking for a fluffy kitten or cute puppy.

The trust, now in its 30th year, is a charity which provides care for all kinds of animals, including cats and dogs. Because of concerns about foot and mouth disease, the Bushey site had been closed to the public until recently.

The other famous names due to help out are Claire Skinner, Nicholas Ball, Alexandra Bastedo, Lorraine Chase, Anthony Valentine, Tracey Childs, Babs Powell and Peter Egan. Mr Egan owns two dogs which he found at the trust.
