A SECONDARY school, which has just moved into a new building, has maintained a good rating following a one-day Ofsted inspection.

Whitcliffe Mount School in Cleckheaton last received a full inspection in December 2013, and this latest short visit from last month saw inspectors conclude that it is still a good school.

The report detailed how the leadership team has maintained the good quality of education in the school since the last inspection; the governing body is highly experienced, determined and ambitious; governors are particularly positive about the leadership and the potential for further improvement in the school; leaders, including governors, have a very good understanding of the strengths and weaknesses in the school; and the school has thought carefully about the curriculum, organised an external review of teaching, learning and assessment, which has led to an improvement in the quality of teaching.

In addition, inspectors highlighted some areas for further improvement, and plans are already in place to ensure this takes place. School leaders will ensure that teaching leads to consistently good progress in all subjects, particularly for the most able boys and the disadvantaged; and they will continue the drive to improve attendance of disadvantaged pupils and those who have special educational needs or disabilities.

Head teacher Jennifer Templar said: “In the four years since the last inspection the school has faced a number of challenges. Not least of which was managing a live building site on the school grounds and preparing for a smooth transition in to a brand new building.

"This report demonstrates that, despite the distractions, the school has maintained its relentless focus on continual improvement and ensuring each and every student has the opportunity and support they need in order to be the best that they can possibly be, both academically and as responsible members of the community.

"This most recent endorsement of the school’s performance and progress marks a key milestone on our journey from good to great and it also provides the perfect platform from which we move forward into an exciting new era in our incredible new facilities.”
