Skipton & The Dales
Faiths to come together
Catholics and Baha'is join together on Saturday to mark a Baha'i Holy Day in Skipton.
The Baha'i Festival of Ridvan is the most important holy day in the Baha'i calendar and is being jointly celebrated with Catholics as part of an outreach programme run by the Catholic Diocese of Leeds.
The period of Ridvan lasts for 12 days and commemorates the sojourn of Baha'u'llah - founder of the Baha'i faith - in the garden of Ridvan on the banks of the River Tigris in Iraq just prior to his exile.
The days of Ridvan extend from April 21 to May 2 each year and the first, ninth and 12th days are full holy days.
The two faiths are meeting in the Easter Room at St Stephen's Catholic Church, in Gargrave Road, Skipton, at 10am on Saturday.
The event is open to all. Anyone wishing to attend should contact David Jackson (01274) 581094 or e-mail dandt55@btinternet.com or Madeline Hellaby on (01756) 795256 or madeline.hellaby @talktalk.net
