Schools in cash concern

Skipton's top performing grammar schools are facing a dramatic cut in funding.

Both Skipton Girls' High School and Ermysted's Grammar School are facing Government cuts of thousands of pounds in their sixth form funding for next year.

Skipton Girls' claims a cut of £700,000 over the next three years will mean the school itself will have to make up the shortfall.

And Ermysted's, which faces cuts of between £46,000 and £92,000, says it will face "severe funding difficulties" over the next academic year.

Both schools currently take post-16 pupils from Aireville and Upper Wharfedale which do not have sixth forms.
