THE West Craven Area Committee approved plans by Earby firm Uniroyal Global Limited to install a RTO thermal oxidizer system with a 15m high exhaust stack at the Grove Mill site.

The proposed thermal oxidizer system, which treats exhaust air to remove pollutants, would replace the current system and according to a planners ‘improve the impact of emissions on the locality’.

Pendle Council’s Environmental Health has been in correspondence with Uniroyal over several months regarding the installation of the abatement system, which is in response to resident complaints.

Members of the Uniroyal Residents Group have spoken out about plasticiser fallout, described as a “brown oil-like substance” which has been emitted from the chimney and fallen on cars and a playground in a nearby housing estate.

Residents have also spoken out about noise from an extraction system at the site.
