A MODERN-style two-storey dwelling using contemporary materials on land adjacent to Raygill House, in Quarry Road, Lothersdale, has been approved.

Members of Craven District Council’s planning committee voted to allow the plans which will see a four-bedroomed detached dwelling created on the site of an extant planning application, submitted by the plot’s previous owner.

Members were told the new build, though modern in character, would be in a simpler design to that previously agreed and intended to be more reflective of a traditional rural building.

The proposed materials comprise Siberian Larch cladding to the walls with dark grey timber fascias.

The roof is to be made up of dark grey concrete interlocking tiles, with a mix of glazing and standing seam zinc roofing to a lean-to extension.

Councillor Chris Rose said she was in favour of the “grand design” stating it was something special with nothing to cause major upset.

“It has been carefully thought through,” she said.

Councillor Carl Lis described it as “innovative.”

However, Councillor Robert Heseltine was less impressed stating “beauty is in the eye of the beholder”.

He was also concerned no details of the build had been presented and was concerned the developer had been handed a “blank piece of paper”.

Officers said details had been submitted but not included in the report.
