VILLAGERS have objected to plans to build 34 homes in Salterforth.

DDK Estates Limited and Seddon Homes Limited are seeking permission to build 34 houses with associated access roads, car parking and open space landscaping on land at Hayfields.

This proposed development is on green field land east of Beckside (the new Seddon development). The site borders a rural bridleway and walking path, which connects Kelbrook and other rural areas of Salterforth.

One of the many objectors, Louise Verey, who lives on Earby Road in Salterforth, said: “This development will adversely impact every single villager of Salterforth and beyond to include Barnoldswick, Earby and Kelbrook. It will also adversely affect those residing in the original Seddon development.”

Mrs Verey said: “Seddon Homes has already built 49 homes on the old Silent Night, which was brownfield land, and now they want to build 34 homes on the green field beside it. Their calling this application phase two and natural infill, but this is grossly misleading.”

One of her arguments in objecting was the impact on landscape.

She said: “This will be a major extension to the village which will negatively impact on the landscape. This land is the gateway to Salterforth and will be ribbon development towards Kelbrook.”

She also said the development “would demonstrably harm the character and appearance of this historic area of Salterforth,” and she added that the gradient of land on site “is significantly higher” which would result in the development being “overbearing” on a nearby bridle-path and surrounding countryside.

She also objected on highways grounds, saying the development’s impact on the Earby Road and the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and horse riders safety would be severe.

She said: “The entrance proposed through Hayfields will open a flow of traffic from not only this new proposed development but also the current Seddon one and traffic from the main Kelbrook Road, producing a congested rat run.”

She argued the development would be unsustainable because it would put pressure on overcrowded local schools and busy doctors surgeries.

Seddon Homes would not comment on the application.
