COUPLES wishing to get married in the great outdoors can now exchange their vows at a scenic new venue in Upper Wharfedale.

Kilnsey Park Estate recently became the first place in Craven where civil ceremonies can take place in a hay meadow.

The family-run estate and visitor attraction, once owned by the monks of Fountains Abbey, hosted its first ceremony and wedding in May. Mat and Lucy Evans from Leeds were the first lucky couple to tie the knot.

"We were so lucky to be blessed with warm blue skies for our first ever outdoor ceremony," said Kilnsey Park owner Jamie Roberts. "Many guests commented that it was an unforgettable wedding made truly special by the beautiful location."

Afterwards the wedding guests partied in a giant teepee on the banks of the River Wharfe.

"We’ve already had many enquiries from couples who love the peace and tranquillity of the Yorkshire Dales and to celebrate their wedding in it," said Jamie. "And where else can you have alpacas as wedding guests?"

The Kilnsey alpacas commemorate the Roberts family’s link with Salts Mill and are part of the visitor attraction.

"Outdoor weddings are perfect for couples looking for something a little bit different. There’s a growing demand Over the past few years couples have been asking whether they can get married at Kilnsey."

"Couples love the relaxed informal atmosphere of getting married in the great outdoors and we even provide accommodation a few metres away so there’s no stressful drive to the altar."

"Although all the ceremonies we’ve held so far have enjoyed good weather, we’ve made sure there’s a Plan B to get married under cover in the event of rain. Most couples are happy to accept the unpredictable nature of the Dales weather and plan accordingly – it’s worth it for the fresh air and incredible views."

"Here at Kilnsey Park Estate we’re passionate about sharing the great Yorkshire Dales landscape and culture with our visitors and the new outdoor wedding venue is the next step in that journey."
