HORTON Park Primary School won the Achievement Award for its great work in helping its pupils progress to achieve great results.

The school, on the Canterbury estate, achieved some of the best results in the district in the most recent primary tables, which were published late last year.

The new measures by the Government, which look at progress of pupils rather than just outcomes, meant 90 per cent of pupils were classed as reaching desired standards.

The school had been nominated by Hina Butt, whose children attend the school.

The achievement award goes to a school that shows it is continually performing well in a particular area, and judges felt Horton Park’s results were deserving of the recognition for their work in helping pupils from a deprived area of the city achieve top results.

On the evening the award was accepted by a group of staff from the school, including head Salma Rahman, who dedicated the award to the school’s pupils.

She said: “We’re overwhelmed and honoured to be getting this award.

“Special thanks goes out to everyone associated with the school, governors, the CEOs, staff, parents, and most importantly the pupils, who are continuously thriving to succeed.

“We think the children will all be really proud, it is great recognition for all the hard work, determination and resilience of everyone at the school. That is why the school has done so well.

“We have just received a letter from the Schools Minister congratulating us on our outstanding results, and this award is another confirmation of this success.

“We will probably have an assembly to celebrate this. This award belongs to the children, and they will be celebrating this tomorrow.”

The award was sponsored by the Kirkgate Shopping Centre in Bradford city centre.
