THIS award recognises partnerships between schools and businesses, charities, arts groups or other organisations.

The best schools are the ones that recognise working in isolation is not the best way to achieve the most for their pupils.

Schools may reach out to businesses and other groups to get involved in education, or vice-versa. This award recognises all the good that can be achieved when bridges are built between schools and outside organisations.

It could be a local business offering pupils a valuable insight into the skills needed to succeed in the working world, an enterprise competition run by an organisation to help pupils become mini entrepreneurs, workshops run by arts groups to help stoke young people’s creativity, or partnerships between charities and schools.

It is to recognise the work of partnerships that link education with business and arts, and help young people prepare for life after school.

At the 2016 event, Bingley Grammar School’s partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company was named the winner.

The school had attained the Royal Shakespeare Learning and Performance Network Status, and for three years was a hub school for the project in Bradford, providing training to local teachers for how to best teach the work of the Bard.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Shipley College

SHIPLEY College is sponsoring the Business in Schools Award in recognition of the impor-tance of schools, colleges and businesses working together for mutual benefit.

Some of the collaborations our full-time students benefit from are work place-ments, shared project working, presentations and competitions. Staff at the respective organisations also benefit hugely from these links. In addition, Level 3 Business, IT, Media/Games Development students and pupils at Titus Salt School benefit from our Centre of Excellence for Business hub, which has an active and committed board and associate members from the business world.

Our apprentices thrive with local companies employing them - from major names to smaller local companies.
