THIS award was set up to celebrate a school or individual that can demonstrate outstanding achievements for their educational establishment.

While the School Improvement Award recognises changes over a year, the Achievement Award looks at a school’s performance over a longer period, or a staff member’s career.

It might celebrate consistently good exam results, a sports team that regularly excels or a raft of good Ofsted results.

It could also be given to schools that have a large number of pupils going on to top-flight higher education.

It is an open-ended category in which we encourage every school to try to shine in what they are best at.

Perhaps there is excellence in music or literacy, or huge strides have been made in focusing and engaging pupils to take ownership of their school for the good of everyone.

Remember that this award does not have to focus on academic achievements - if you have some achievement you want to shout from the rooftops, this is the perfect category to do it in.

Last year the award went to Immanuel College in Thackley for the support and guidance it offers to pupils.

The nomination said: “Strong leadership and dedicated professionals ensure every child’s potential is maximised.”

KIRKGATE Shopping Centre, celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2016, is across two levels and includes over 70 retail units and 650 parking spaces.
Located in the heart of Bradford, the local community is at the very centre of Kirkgate Shopping’s initiatives.

The past year has seen some excellent education-based campaigns launched including teaming up with the T&A and National Literacy Trust for a Bradford poetry competition, a Christmas colouring competition and partnering with poet Joolz Denby to find Bradford’s “Young War Poet”.

Catherine Riley, who has championed the centre’s education initiatives, said: “We were delighted to work with so many schools and children this year. The centre is very proud to sponsor the Achievement Award.

“This is an incredibly exciting time for Kirkgate Shopping and we have a fantastic programme of initiatives, celebrations and partnerships lined up, as well as a significant number of new tenant conversations.”
