IT is not just teaching staff that make a school great, and the Supporting Staff Member of the Year award is dedicated to the caretakers, support assistants, school crossing patrols and other non-teaching staff.

It is aimed at those who always give exceptional service and make a real difference to their educational establishment through their work.

Teachers aren’t the entire story when it comes to schools, and often a member of the supporting staff can have just as important an impact on children as the teachers.

We want people to nominate staff who keep the school running, who oil the cogs and prime the machine that is any school - people without whom the job would be much harder.

The nominees might have been in the background for their entire career, or someone children and parents see every day. This is the chance to give them the recognition they deserve.

Nursery nurse Glenda McGoldrick, who has been at Sandal Primary School in Baildon for more than 20 years, won the category at the 2016 awards.
She had been nominated by her colleagues at the school, who said she was “highly regarded” by staff, children and parents, regularly helped children learn first aid and healthy eating, and was a “linchpin” of the school’s nursery.

Bradford Telegraph and Argus: Telegraph & Argus

THE Telegraph & Argus can trace its direct history back to 1868 when the Bradford Daily Telegraph appeared on the streets costing a half-penny a copy (about £1.47 per copy at today’s prices!).

ts newspaper roots, however, go back to the birth of the Bradford Observer, in 1834, a title which, in the shape of the Yorkshire Observer, was amalgamated into the T&A in 1956.

In recent years, the T&A has won awards for design, content, campaigns and appeals, including accolades for the Specialist Publication of the Year 2013 for coverage of Bradford City’s Capital One Cup run.

As well as being one of the top regional daily newspapers in the country, our website – telegraphandargus.co.uk – is also one of the best-read and fastest-growing.

We continue to engage with – and campaign on the behalf of – our readers through the traditional print platforms, but embrace new technology and     digital methods, including social networking.
