Cash machine raiders flee
Bungling raiders were left empty-handed after being forced to abandon a cash machine they had ripped out of a wall in Pudsey.
Police were alerted by members of the public woken in the early hours of today by a car towing what they thought was a refrigerator or washing machine.
The cash machine, which had been stolen in a ram raid outside the Halifax Bank in Market Place, Pudsey, shortly after 4am, was dumped in Roker Lane, Littlemoor.
Detective Inspector Fran Norton, of North West Leeds CID, said a stolen Ford Mondeo had been used in the raid. A chain had been attached between the car and the ATM to drag it from the wall.
The car was found abandoned and partially burned out in Tong Approach, Farnley, Leeds, soon after.
Two men, aged 20 and 18, were arrested nearby and were being questioned by detectives today.
The cash machine has been recovered and it is not thought any money has been stolen.
Police are investigating possible links to a burglary at the Mainline Club, in Pudsey Road, Farnley, at 2.45am yesterday when windows were smashed and fruit machines attacked.
