Tributes have been paid to two sixth former students at Fulneck School, Pudsey, who were killed in a head-on crash at the weekend.

Charles Gaunt, 17, of Farnley, Leeds, and Moein Yazdani, 18, of Armley, Leeds, had been in a black Peugeot 206 travelling towards Leeds on the A647 Stanningley Road at 9pm on Saturday when their car was in a collision with a Volkswagen Bora. The pair were pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Bora, a 57-year-old man believed to be a Bradford taxi driver, was treated in Leeds General Infirmary and has since been released.

Fulneck School principal Trevor Kernohan said: "Charles and Moein were two fine young men on the threshold of their adult lives.

"They were both active members of the sixth form committee and played a full part in the life of the school.

"Both students were in the process of applying for university courses and we would have anticipated them achieving well in their A-level exams next summer.

"In such a tightly knit community as our sixth form their loss is felt by everyone."
