Teenager Amy Kershaw has taken to the road after passing her motorcycle test on her 17th birthday - the first day she was legally allowed to ride on the road with such a machine.

Amy, a pupil at Benton Park School in Rawdon, took her A2 motorcycle test after doing most of her on-road training on the with a 50cc moped.

She has also trained on private land with a 125cc motorcycle.

The owners of Tommy Bee Motorcycle Training, where she trained, say they do not know of another case of anyone passing the motorcycle test on their 17th birthday.

Tom Blears, her instructor, said: "Amy has worked very hard for this and has maturity and road awareness beyond her years."
