Police are warning people to look out for thieves stealing stone, lead and roofing slates.
Neighbourhood Policing Team officers for the Otley and Pool-in-Wharfedale areas say both rural and town centre properties have fallen prey to thieves. Police have now asked people to watch out for what may appear to be genuine builders removing items from places where such work was not known to be underway.
Thieves targeting Yorkshire Stone in the area have been known to wear hard hats and high-visibility builders' jackets, so passers-by assumed they were simply carrying out work on the building.
Police Community Support Officers hold a contact point session to discuss crime and policing issues with Otley people every Tuesday afternoon at Otley Library. The contact point session takes place between 2pm and 4pm.
A new contact point has been set up at Bennett Court in Otley. An officer will be present between 10am and 11am one Tuesday each month. The next session at Bennett Court will be on Tuesday April 15.
