A SEA of pink hit Ilkley on Sunday as scores of women and children took part in the town’s Race for Life.

Cancer Research UK hosted the Race for Life at Ilkley’s East Holmes Field from 10.30am, with many runners dressing in pink and donning fancy outfits for the fun-run.

Area event manager Katie Mathers said: “It went really well. We had around 700 ladies taking part with many signing up on the day and we hope to raise around £33,000.

“We had to change the route at the last minute because there was another event going on at Nell Bank so those who had taken part in previous years had the challenge of a different course. But it all went well and next year we will be going back to the previous route.”

The charity says the money raised will help fund research into all 200 types of cancer.
