Pub chimney blaze put out

6:30pm Friday 4th January 2008

By Ben Barnett »

Firefighters spent two hours battling a chimney blaze at a Denholme pub early today.

Officers from Illingworth and Fairweather Green were called to the Royal at 1.30am after an open fire had been lit earlier in the day. Dry timber in the stack had smouldered and then caught fire.

Officers climbed in to the loft to remove part of the roof to allow them to dampen down damaged woodwork.
