Nuisance bikers blighting Bradford's Thorpe Edge estate have been warned they face hefty fines or confiscation of their vehicles.

Police officers and BCHT housing staff targeted the area in a day of action this week, acting on complaints by residents.

Eleven residents, known to have used mini-motorbikes, quad bikes and off-road motorbikes illegally in the area, were handed warning letters.

Five of those were served section 59 notices by police stating they face more severe penalties for causing further nuisance, while five BCHT tenants were warned that the use of their bikes was in breach of their tenancy agreement.

Police on motorbikes and officers from the Council's Park Ranger Service patrolled the Thorpe Edge area as part of the day of action.

Anna Fryer, acting BCHT director for North Bradford, said: "Customer feedback from a recent consultation we carried out of all our tenants shows that motorbike nuisance is a major concern in parts of North Bradford.

"By working in partnership with the police and the Park Ranger Service we are getting tough on those individuals that cause problems and disturbance for the law-abiding majority. The day of action was a big success and we aim to work with our partners to target other areas where this nuisance is a problem within communities."
