Guiseley is to have a new children's centre after councillors in Leeds agreed a £3.6m cash injection for schemes around the city.

Members of the Leeds City Council's executive board have agreed funding for ten new centres which will be built over the next three years.

The initiative is designed to provide a range of services, including childcare and early education, if there is demand.

Key elements of the scheme will be the provision of support for parents who want to enter training or who need help getting a job. They will also provide access to community health services, including antenatal and child health services.

Coun Stewart Golton, executive board member responsible for children's services, said: "These children's centres are about so much more than just childcare - they are pivotal resources for the whole family.''
