A teenage driver who drove at up to 90mph before crashing into a parked car has been sent to a young offenders' institution for eight months.
At Bradford Crown Court yesterday, Judge Roger Scott watched video footage from a pursuing police car which showed 18-year-old Kamran Ali driving a Toyota Corolla at high speed around streets near to the Bradford Royal Infirmary last August.
The pursuit, in the early hours of the morning, ended when the Toyota hit a parked Vauxhall Astra and Ali tried to run off.
Prosecutor Richard Davies said Ali, of Fairbank Road, Girlington, was arrested in the grounds of the BRI and although he claimed to have been a passenger in the car he later admitted a charge of aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving.
Defence Barrister David McGonigal said his client had become a full-time carer for his brother since the incident last year, and his mother was keeping a close eye on him.
Judge Scott said Ali was driving at speed in the dark and other drivers would not have been expecting him to be coming round the bend at 60 to 90mph.
Ali was also banned for 12 months and ordered to take an extended test before driving again.
