Teenager locked up for drugs

A teenager who bought cocaine to sell to friends has been locked up for 16 months.

Matthew Ingham was arrested in February after police stopped a car on Halifax Road near Haworth.

Prosecutor Richard Davies told Bradford Crown Court the 19-year-old, of Queens Grove, Ingrow, denied having drugs, but after officers found £200 in an envelope he handed over a sock containing nine bags of the drug.

Mr Davies said the cocaine was estimated to be worth about £250, and £275 in cash was seized from Ingham.

During police interview, Ingham said he bought the drug for himself and friends.

Barrister Gerald Hendron, for Ingham, said his client had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity to supplying cocaine, possessing cocaine with intent to supply and possessing criminal property.

Ingham was sentenced to 16 months in a young offenders' institution. Judge Roger Scott said: "When you come out you've got to behave yourself."
