A new swing bridge at Hirst Mill Lock, Saltaire, is due to be installed on Monday.
The £240,000 bridge replacement scheme will restore the regular access route over the Leeds -Liverpool Canal for residents and Saltaire Garden Centre.
British Waterways' contractor, Morrisons Construction Limited, will be on site to begin installation of the replacement bridge.
British Waterways had to decommission the bridge in March following an unexpected breakdown and work has been ongoing to design and manufacture a suitable replacement.
An alternative route via Saltaire Sports Association has been used while the repairs took place.
