Police are hunting a gang who rammed a car before dragging out one of its occupants and threatening him with a handgun.

A 43-year-old man, who has not been named, was being treated in hospital today after suffering a head wound and lacerations to his hand in the terrifying attack.

The victim managed to break free during the assault, which happened in Peverill Mount, Fagley, at 10.45am yesterday.

A 16-year-old youth who was with him also managed to run off after receiving minor injuries in the incident. He was treated at hospital and released.

Detective Inspector Noel Devine, of Bradford North CID, said police believed a real gun had been used in the incident, but confirmed no shots had been fired.

He said it had been a planned and targeted attack but the motive for it was unclear.

Officers have briefly spoken to the victim in hospital but are hoping to have a fuller interview with him. He was expected to be released from hospital today.

Det Insp Devine said: "Any incident like this is worrying and we need to find out the background and reasons for this."

Police said the man and the youth had been in a car when a gang of up to eight men, all Asian and in their 20s, arrived in two cars - one of which rammed them.

After the attack, the gang made off in a blue Ford Focus, leaving their other car, a Honda, at the scene.

Detectives are now trying to trace the Ford Focus which might have some damage to its bodywork.
