Detectives questioned more than 50 motorists today in a bid to identify a man who tried to abduct a 14-year-old girl in the street.

Officers held an information seek at the scene of the attempted abduction, in Oakenshaw, Bradford, exactly a week after it happened.

They spent an hour stopping and talking to drivers in Mill Carr Hill Road in the hope of tracing anyone who had been in the area a week earlier and may have witnessed something.

Acting Detective Inspector Ian Lawrence, of Bradford South CID, said several potential witnesses had been identified and police were following up new information.

The schoolgirl was attacked at about 11am on Thursday, October 4, as she walked under the M606 motorway bridge in Mill Carr Hill Road.

A shiny dark blue Mercedes van pulled up alongside her and the driver got out and tried to drag her into the back. But she managed to escape him and raise the alarm.

Just before the incident the Asian man had stopped his van three times and asked her for directions.

The girl was not physically hurt, but was upset and distressed by the incident.

Acting Det Insp Lawrence said: "We are treating this incident extremely seriously. We would still like to hear from anyone who witnessed anything suspicious."

The suspect was in his 20s, of medium build and about 5ft 10ins. He had big, bushy eyebrows and very dark brown hair, shaved round the back and sides and in a curtain style to the top of his ears. He was wearing a dark blue T-shirt, baggy blue jeans and white trainers.

The van had black wing mirrors and no glass in the back doors.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Bradford South CID via the help desk, on (01274) 376459, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
