Jail sentences totalling more than eight years have been handed down to two men involved in selling hard drugs in the Laisterdyke area of Bradford.

The city's Crown Court heard how police kept watch as known drug users were directed towards a house in Bradford Lane, from where Nadeem Sheikh and Mohammed Shafiq were operating.

Both men were arrested after a short chase and Shaffiq was found in possession of £2,000 of heroin and crack cocaine, £710 in cash and two mobile phones. Sheikh had £176 in cash and two mobiles.

When the house was searched, officers found sandwich bags and scales that had been used in the drug trade, said prosecutor Simon Myers.

Sheikh, 22, of Grandage Terrace, Manningham, had denied a charge of conspiracy to supply controlled drugs but was convicted by a jury. He was sentenced to five years.

Shafiq, 25, of Harewood Street, Barkerend, admitted a similar charge and was sentenced to 40 months.

The house was the home of 41-year-old Duane Kirton, who pleaded guilty to two charges of being concerned in the supply of drugs.

After being told Kirton had been pressured into allowing the house to be used for drugs, Judge Roger Scott imposed an 18-month supervision order and a drug treatment and testing order for 12 months.
