6:33am Monday 9th April 2007

By Michael Black »

Two masked raiders threatened a cleaner with hammers before fleeing with cash from a Keighley bingo hall.

The 38-year-old cleaner opened the door of Gala Bingo, Alice Street, Keighley, to a man who was wearing a balaclava mask who threatened her with a hammer.

The terrified woman was then forced to open the venue's fire exit to let in another masked man.

Inspector Peter Craig, of Keighley CID, said: "Both men attacked the fruit machines and a cash machine with the hammer before making off with a quantity of cash in coins."

The raiders, who were both white, fled out of the fire exit into Henry Street.

One was described as 5ft 6ins tall, of stocky build. His accomplice was about 6ft tall.

Anyone with information about the raid, which took place at 6.30am on Saturday, should contact Keighley CID on (01535) 617085.
