Nab Wood Crematorium has been forced to temporarily close due to the chimney catching fire during a service.
Firefighters were called at 2.50pm today to find that the superheated chimney had ignited timbers in the crematorium's roof.
Steve Noble, of Shipley fire station, said: "The crematorium has two cremators but one is out of use.
"This seems to have resulted with the other cremator taking on double the work. This appears to have led to the extractor in the chimney becoming overheated and igniting several timbers in the roofing void.
"We went up with fire extinguishers and put out the burning timbers. There wasn't much damage but obviously until a full maintenance and safety check can be carried out the crematorium has had to close."
All services planned for Nab Wood have been transferred to Scholemoor Crematorium until further notice.
