Bradford city centre’s new visitor information centre is to open its doors to the public for the first time tomorrow after a £70,000 revamp of the building.
The centre has found new premises in Broadway after its former home in City Hall was turned into police contact centre last year.
The key location is between the new City Park and the site of what will become the Broadway shopping centre. It is already owned by Bradford Council and used to house the young people’s information shop.
Staff at the new location will be able to provide information on places to visit, where people can stay and help with travel arrangements and short breaks.
It will also be useful to residents wanting to explore local beauty spots such as Saltaire, Ilkley and Haworth, and also if they want to book tickets for tourist attractions.
They have been busy this week moving everything over from their temporary home in City Hall reception.
Councillor David Green, the Council’s executive member for regeneration and the economy, said: “It is really important that we provide quality information to visitors when tourism contributes so much to the local economy.
“Our staff have won many awards over the years for the high standard of service they have offered and we hope to build on our reputation with the opening of this new centre.”
Tricia Tillotson, visitor economy manager at the Council, said: “It’s great that we have found a new home for the city's visitor information centre. We can offer all kinds of information for people wanting to enjoy their leisure time, as well as quality products in the retail section, which can make great personal souvenirs or gifts for friends and family.”
The overall value of tourism in Bradford is estimated to be around £536 million per year, with staying visitors generating around £96 million in expenditure, and day visitors spending around £418 million.

Where is it actually located?
I wondered if Britannia House but if there they would have said.
Anyway it does sound to me to be out of the way.

Councillor David Green, the Council’s executive member for regeneration and the economy. . I'm sure this job title changes with every story. Wasn't there something about tourism the other day? . Any how he really loves being quoted in the T&A. Not a day goes by without this waster giving his opinion on something. . I loved it on Look North when he was torn to pieces about Westfield. They asked him if this time next year if he came back on Look North would the development of Westfield be taking place and that we had heard it all before. No doubt he'll be looking at that date already making his excuses not to appear on Look North.

A Look North source says that if there is no update on progress from Westfield by the 1st March, then Look North are to take Cllr Greenwood to task about his remarks on Look North in saying Westfield would be back on site by Feb 2012.

I walked down Ivegate this morning - 7 empty shops, 2 charity shops, and the betting shop, just in that short street. Kirkgate isn't much better and those two streets used to be right in the main shopping centre!

Excellent news! I'm so glad that we're investing in getting people to come and stay in Bradford, and having something in the city centre to show people what's available - and there's tons! - is vital.

Who in their right mind would wish to terrify our grandchildren with the "black clothes from head to toes brigade"? It is really scary and intimidating for children to see these ghost like beings moving around our attractions or shops- not even the eyes show on many of them so the children understandably freak out - no enjoyment in trying to calm a heartbroken terrified infant down every 5 minutes of your day out!!! There are no decent places in Bradford any more and if you really think there is it just shows how easily pleased and what low expectations you actually have. There is nothing i would want my visiting family to see here in Bradford now and to be honest it is the people that lower everything. Every attraction there is is now ruined by the scruffy swearing lowlifes and druggies/alcoholics/ and beggars. To even get to the theatre on an evening we need to park or use public transport and both are expensive or and dangerous!! The CCTV we have never faces the right way when there are crimes, so criminals roam freely on an evening and will continue to do so. The council are kidding themselves if they think this place is worth wasting tax payers hard earned money on. Maybe working CCTV would have been a better project to spend money on. Our council is run by idiots lacking in the brain department and who have no idea what the great British public -yes we do still live and belong here - really want to see in our town AND it isn't curry takeaways or wet monstrosities either!!
