Boy, 14, arrested after Thornbury accident leaves boy fighting for life

A teenager was in a critical condition last night after the off-road motorbike he was riding was in a crash with a car in Bradford.

The incident happened in Leeds Old Road, near Thornbury roundabout.

West Yorkshire Police said a man in his late teens, from the Leeds Road area of Bradford, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. His condition was described as “critical but stable.”

A second male, a pillion passenger, suffered less severe arm injuries.

A police spokesman said the accident occurred when a Honda off-road motorcycle collided with a black BMW.

Councillor Mohammed Shafiq said family members were at the bedside of the rider.

“They don’t know what the outcome will be. They’re very upset and emotional about what has happened,” he said.

Coun Ghazanfer Khaliq, who also knows the family, said: “He is stable, but possibly still quite serious, so it’s a nerve-wracking time for the parents.”

He said the circumstances surrounding the accident were unclear,.

He said: “I see lots of young men in the area riding off-road motorbikes and I just think it’s more risk than it’s worth.”

Last night police confirmed a 14-year-old boy had been arrested on suspicion of theft of a vehicle in connection with the incident.
