FIRE crews were called to a golf club in Shipley early this morning after reports of a gas cylinder on fire.

Crews from Shipley and Bingley fire stations were called to Northcliffe Golf Club around 1.40am.

It was reported that a gas container was ablaze.

A spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Shipley fire station crews were called at 1.40am today to Long Lane, Heaton, Bradford.

"This was an ignited bulk LPG container on the site of the golf course.

"Bingley crews also attended the incident as well as a DIM (dectection, identification and monitoring) vehicle.

"The fire is believed to have been started deliberately and police were in attendance.

"Shipley crews and DIM vehicle remained in attendance until gas engineers arrived to ensure the scene was safe.

"Crews left at about 8.45am today."

The fire follows a blaze at the golf club on October 18, when one of the outbuildings was destroyed in an explosion, which was also being treated as arson.

The building contained greenkeeping equipment, including cylinders of oxygen and acetylene.
