Pupils from Lower Fields Primary School in Bradford visited Yorkshire Building Society's Bradford headquarters to see bird boxes which they had built put in place.

YBS's environmental co-ordinator, Alison James, visited Year 3 pupils at the school last month along with representatives from the Forest of Bradford to help build the boxes.

The project is part of a partnership between the company and the school, which staff regularly visit as part of the YBS Actioneering Scheme.

Lower Fields twitchers, aged seven and eight, have been studying birds native to the Bradford district.

Bird boxes will be put up at the Society's Rooley Lane building as well as at the school.

Trisha Harwood, parental and community involvement officer at Lower Fields, said: "We are delighted to continue our partnership with Yorkshire Building Society and to work with Forest of Bradford. We have quite a few expert birdwatchers among the group now and we are all very excited to see if our new boxes will have residents this year."

Alison James said: "It was a pleasure to work with the pupils at Lower Fields Primary to build the new boxes. The society's head office is surrounded by woodland and is a great place for spotting wildlife, I'm sure the new boxes will be snapped up in no time!"

Plans are also afoot to put cameras in the bird boxes to allow pupils to watch the progress of nesting birds live on the internet.
