Churchyard holds open day
Heaton Graveyard Community Project is holding an open day in conjunction with the national volunteering and learning body CSV Action Earth Project.
The event on Saturday will begin at 10am in the Baptist Chapel, Leylands Lane, where refreshments will be served. There will be a bring-and-buy stall, and cakes and plants will be on sale.
There will also be opportunities for members of the community to buy a tree in the graveyard, as part of the Tree for a Life' scheme, in memory of a loved one for a special family event.
At 11am, Councillor Stanley King will launch the churchyard's new history/nature trail. He will also be planting a tree as part of the celebration of his 38 years as a ward councillor.
Team members will be on hand to meet visitors and guided walks will be available.
Everyone will be welcome, so go along and enjoy the wonderful spring flowers and blossom . Volunteers are also welcome to go and help with the project.
The event will close at 3pm. All proceeds will go towards the graveyard project. For more information contact Margaret Gray on (01274) 545745
